The law needs to be more severe against driving while “intexticating” (From the picture below).

Laws like imposing fines, will certainly encourage other state laws to become serious against people who are holding cell phones while driving.

Over the last weekend, I took a Motorcycle Safety class at the local college. I rode motorcycle in India for about 2-3 years. I heard (may have read) that taking the class will help me get the motorcycle license in a quicker way than otherwise. And I was right. The class is a beginner level. The material was succinct and touched every aspect of Motorcycle safety. The videos shown in the class complement the course work. The course was for 3 days (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). Saturday & Sunday were hands-on riding. Sunday was skills assessment tests.

Now I was in the hunt for a motorcycle. I was interested in a Touring (with a sports side to it).

Alright, I test rode Honda NT700V first.

It was fine, easy to maneuver. Felt good. Pick up was not very impressive.

Next I test rode VRSC Night Rod Special (Harley Davidson) or sometimes also known as VROD

Given it was my first ever ride with a Harley, I was totally perplexed. Literally I was flying on the road. In 5th gear, when I increased the throttle, I felt like a bullet out of the muzzle/arrow just being shot (maybe am exaggerating a little bit). Later I came to know that this bike was a result of joint collaboration between Harley-Davidson and Porsche! The indicators just go away when you finish the turn (sweet).

Negative points:

It was clumsy at the turns. You can feel the humongous weight when going slow. Takes some practice to get used to.

The price is around $16000.

And finally I test rode the BMW F800 ST.

I certainly was not over whelmed as I was when riding the VROD. It is nimble, it was very easy to maneuver, light weight than the NT700V. Pick up was better than Honda.

Here is the absolute fun stuff, I fell in love with. The on board “computer” and the LCD display are impressive. Tells me which gear I am currently on, temperature, mileage, etc. Heated grips when you want to ride in the freezing weather. The saddle bags resemble like literally a horseback sacks. The reason I say this is because they are expandable/water-proof and easy to mount and dis-mount.

Price comes around $13000, without the saddle bags, when you add them, maybe around $14000.

Based on above experience, I certainly eliminated Honda.

Here is my observation –

BMW F800 ST: light weight (compared to Honda NT700V and VROD), innovative features, easy at turns, awesome expandable saddle bags, up-right seating position.

VROD: clumsy at turns (takes little to get used to), POWERFUL fast riding, although I don’t need such a powerful engine, am no bike racer, no display features like F800 ST, cruiser seating position (legs spread out), little lean involved while holding the handle bars (not sure if this is good for long rides, as I want to Tour). Not sure if the pillions/saddle bags are compatible.

Here is the final winner: BMW F800ST. Hope my review helps people who are looking to buy a Sport Tourer!

Identifying talent from all corners of the country (and probably world) and giving chance to promising youngsters (many of them are barely in 20′s), and most of all adding to the raw entertainment for people who love cricket!

It’s interesting from the commercial point of view, as this event is generating enormous capital over the past two years. And it has finally exceeded other professional leagues such as English Premier League. Further details are mentioned in this web page: “Indian IPL Teams Now Worth More than English Premier League Clubs”

We need more such initiatives which will encourage sports persons to concentrate on soccer, tennis, etc. Specially Tennis and Soccer where India lags way behind!

One of my favorite readings is this website. No wonder I have come across some quality reading in this article.

Here is the excerpt I found interesting…

“Knowledge@Wharton: What are the most important qualities of a leader?

Riady: A leader needs to have a vision, because at the end of the day, the vision must drive the organization. It must drive people. And a strong vision attracts people like a magnet and gets people to make changes in the community.

But it’s not just about having a vision. [It's also about] having humility. That’s very difficult. The more successful you are, the more you face the temptation of being egoistic and full of pride. It’s also about having the heart to serve, to do things not for yourself but for others. Those are the three things: vision, humility and the ability to serve.”

I personally experienced what the author is trying to say. Unknowingly or knowingly the ego makes you look like a bad person. Humility is the best friend anybody can ever have!

I bought this book after I started blogging. Better late than never, to my surprise, I found this book very resourceful. The book has 6 parts, each having 2-4 chapters. Of all the parts, I liked 2, Part-3, Fitting In and Feeling Good and Part-5, Marketing and Promoting your blog. After reading part-3, specially chapter 9-Creating Great Content, I felt I could also learn to write good content, express myself and share thoughts and knowledge. It was inspiring for me.

Coming to the Part-5, Marketing and Promoting your blog, this is the meat of the book. It just tells you strategies on how to monetize your blog. Earn while you blog basically. Specially chapter 16- Making Mad Mad Money, you can easily pick up at least one way to monetize your blog. All in all, this is a good buy!

Here are some other valuable etiquette while you blog. Hope the content above was helpful for you. Feel free to comment/critique.

Many of us might not know who John Hughes is. I came to know about him, last weekend, when I watched the movie “The Breakfast Club”. Its one of my favorite movies. I never expected to hear about him so soon, and worst, the news of his demise. I also came to realize, he made another light-hearted funny movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. I enjoyed as much watching this movie too. He scripted/produced “Home Alone”. I still barely remember when I watched this movie in theater for the first time, as I was around 9 yrs old. He also scripted another favorite movie of mine, “Pretty in Pink”. John Hughes is one of those talented people, who created timeless classics, that are fresh and speak about universal themes. For instance, “Home Alone” is about childhood pranks and adventures, “The Breakfast Club” talks about adolescence and parent children relationships, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, about college bunk adventure, “Pretty in Pink”, about love and loss. The movie industry has lost a great talent. Many aspiring directors can learn a lot from his creations. May he rest in peace.
